Supporting Gas Safety Week to help keep you safe
We’re supporting Gas Safety Week, a national campaign that highlights the importance of gas safety.
From Monday 14 September to Sunday 20 September, we're sharing practical advice to help you keep safe in your home.
Throughout the week, you’ll see information about our annual gas safety checks, testing your carbon monoxide alarms, and knowing what to do in the event of a gas leak.
Annual gas safety checks
Annual gas safety checks help to make sure your gas appliances are working correctly, which reduces the risk of gas leaks, fires, and carbon monoxide poisoning.
We'll get in touch with you when your home is due for a gas safety check. Please make sure you let our team in so we can carry out the check. If you need to rearrange the appointment, please call us on 01226 787878 as soon as possible.
Test your carbon monoxide alarms every week
If your carbon monoxide alarm is working, it can provide an early warning if gas is present in your home. Make sure your alarm is tested every week and follow our advice:
Press the test button on the alarm.
Listen for the alarm sound.
If you hear a sound, your alarm is working correctly.
If you think your carbon monoxide alarm isn't working correctly, call us on 01226 787878 and we'll replace it.
Gas leaks in your home
It’s important you know what to do if you think there might be a gas leak. If you smell gas:
Turn off the gas supply at the meter if it's safe to do so.
Open all doors and windows.
Leave your home immediately.
Once outside, call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999.
Following our gas safety tips will help you stay safe in your home. You can find more information on our gas safety webpage.
