Our fair share of volunteering

Colleagues At Fareshare Warehouse

On Friday 17 April colleagues from our Communications and Customer Engagement teams spent the day volunteering at the FareShare Yorkshire warehouse in Wombwell.

FareShare supports the local area by redistributing good surplus food which would otherwise go to waste. We joined their existing team of volunteers who give back to the community by:

·       Sorting, storing, and recording the food that’s delivered to the warehouse.

·       Assembling food orders.

·       Delivering surplus food to charities in 11 towns and cities across Yorkshire.

They turn an environmental problem into a solution for the hunger and hardship faced by up to 900,000 people across Yorkshire each year. We enjoyed working with the team to pack surplus food and prepare deliveries, giving us a chance to meet new people and support our local community.

Carla Wragg, Head of People and Culture, said: “Part of our vision at Berneslai Homes centres on creating great communities with the people of Barnsley, and working with local partners to get colleagues involved in volunteering is an important part of that. Through employer supported volunteering days colleagues can give back, meet new people, and learn new skills – all while helping to make a difference in our neighbourhoods.”
