Annual Report 2025-26: ‘Creating great homes and communities with the people of Barnsley’

Our Annual Report for 2025-26 summarises our key achievements over the past year, plans for the future, and how we’ve worked with tenants to improve homes, services and communities. 

Co-designed with tenants from our Customer Services Tenant Influence Panel, the report shares our performance against the Tenant Satisfaction Measures, including comparisons with similar organisations. This includes measuring performance on several key areas, including home safety checks and responding to tenants' feedback, with us seeing better performance in making a positive contribution to neighbourhoods, and repairs satisfaction over the past year. 

It also features real-life stories showing the difference we’re making across the borough, alongside honest commentary from the editorial group celebrating successes and highlighting opportunities for improvement.  

Highlights from 2025-26 include: 

• 100% compliance across key building safety areas, including keeping you safe through gas and fire safety checks.  

• More than 700 home adaptations, such as installing stair lifts and wet rooms, helping to adapt tenants’ homes to meet their needs.  

• Developing new tenant involvement opportunities, giving you different ways to have your say through ‘Talk is Change’. 

• 2,527 people being supported by our Tenants First team.  

Ken Taylor, Chair of our Board, said: “As a Board, we want to make sure tenants are genuinely at the heart of how Berneslai Homes makes decisions and improves services. That’s why it’s particularly important that tenants have helped to shape this year’s Annual Report, celebrating what’s working well while being honest about the areas where they expect to see further progress. 

 “There is a lot to be proud of, from keeping homes safe to supporting tenants into employment and strengthening communities. The Board will continue to listen to tenants and provide the challenge and oversight needed to make sure we build on this progress.” 

Steve Feast, Chief Executive, said: “Our Annual Report to tenants provides an opportunity to reflect on everything we’ve achieved with tenants over the past year, but just as importantly, to be open about where we need to do better. I’m really pleased to see progress in key areas including repairs satisfaction and the contribution we make to neighbourhoods, alongside strong performance in keeping homes safe. 

 “Since joining Berneslai Homes, I’ve been spending time listening to tenants and colleagues about what matters most to them. There’s more work to do, particularly around empty homes and anti-social behaviour, and we’ll keep listening, learning, and working with tenants and partners to deliver the improvements they want to see.”
