We held a Community Partnership Day at Silverdale Community Centre in Monk Bretton, bringing together a range of services to help tenants.

Barnsley Council, Age UK, Groundwork Yorkshire, and South Yorkshire Police joined us for the event on Wednesday 11 March, with a wide variety of support on offer including:

  • Free toiletries and household items
  • Advice on preventing damp and mould
  • Home safety advice and free items from South Yorkshire Police
  • Tips to save money on energy bills from Groundwork’s Green Doctor
  • Residents being able to share thoughts on the local area and learn about community activities
  • A chance to meet different Berneslai Homes teams, learn about their Ambition programme, and talk to Councillor Ken Richardson and Councillor Margaret Sheard

Over 30 tenants attended with some getting advice from us on repairs, tenancy support, and anti-social behaviour queries.

During that week Barnsley Council’s Love Where You Live Action Team were out in the area clearing waste from gardens and tidying up the neighbourhood. 280kg in garden waste and 400kg in other items, such as bulky waste, was cleared helping to improve the appearance of the area.

Dave Fullen, Executive Director of Customer and Estate Services, said: “No matter how big or small these events are it’s about us learning from tenants’ feedback and trying to make a difference in the community. It’s important that we’re visible in the community and working with different partners helps us to offer more valuable support to tenants.”
